Bhringraj Oil: Ayurveda’s “King of Hair”, Explained
What Bhringraj is, why it has been used in hair-oiling for centuries, and how to use our Sukeshini Bhringraj Hair Oil as part of a regular routine.
In Ayurveda, Bhringraj is known as keshraj, “king of hair”. It is a leafy herb that has been used in traditional hair-oiling for a very long time. A Bhringraj oil is made by cooking the herb into a base oil so the oil carries its qualities. It is then massaged into the scalp and hair as part of a regular routine.
What goes into our Bhringraj oil
VedJyoti Sukeshini Bhringraj Hair Oil is centred on Bhringraj, with four other botanicals in a sesame oil base. Every ingredient is named on the label, and nothing is hidden behind “fragrance”.
- Sesame Seed Oil: the base, traditionally used to nourish hair and scalp
- Bhringraj: the star ingredient, traditionally used to support healthy hair
- Amla: nourishes hair and scalp
- Yashtimadhu (liquorice): soothes and nourishes the scalp
- Haritaki: traditionally used to support scalp health

Why oil your hair at all?
Hair oiling is one of the oldest self-care habits in India. The ritual matters as much as the herb. A slow scalp massage, a few quiet minutes, and a regular rhythm are what make it a routine rather than a one-off. We don’t promise that any oil will change hair fall or growth. Results depend on your hair, your scalp and your overall health. What we offer is a simple, honest, traditional oil.
How to use it
- Part your hair and apply a small amount to the scalp.
- Massage gently with your fingertips for a few minutes.
- Work the rest through the lengths of your hair.
- Leave it on for the time shown on the label, then wash with a mild shampoo.
Before you start
Do a patch test first. Apply a little behind the ear or on the inner forearm and wait 24 hours. Follow the frequency and leave-on time printed on the pack. Overnight use is only suitable if the label allows it and your scalp tolerates it. Keep the oil away from the eyes, and stop using it if you see irritation.
Our oils are traditional hair-care products. They are not medical treatments, and they don’t claim to treat any scalp or hair condition.
